Sikorsky BLACK HAWK® Multi-Mission Combat Helicopter

The BLACK HAWK remains the world’s most versatile utility helicopter with strong international demand. With 4,000 flying worldwide in 36 countries and 15 million flight hours, including over 5 million combat hours, it’s a proven workhorse that the U.S. Army and its allies will be flying for decades to come.

This remarkable aircraft has fought its way in and out of countless combat zones. It transports troops, saves lives as a MEDEVAC or casualty evacuation platform, delivers critical supplies to troops and emergency aid during natural disasters, and performs as an aerial firefighter and border patroller.

With digital avionics, powerful GE engines, high strength airframe structures and composite wide chord rotor blades, today’s BLACK HAWK platform has better survivability and situational awareness and can fly higher and carry more than its predecessors ever did.

Multi-Role Capabilities   ___

At 9,979 kg / 22,000 lbs. max. gross weight, the utility version of the BLACK HAWK helicopter transports 12 fully equipped, seated troops into the heat of battle. Within the following mission sets, Sikorsky can further customize to specific requirements.

Internal / External Lift

Internal / External Lift

Carry 4,080 kg/9,000 lbs. of supplies as an internal or external load. Sling load firefighting Bambi bucket or light vehicles from the cargo hook, then release to the ground from a hover.
Combat Assault

Combat Assault

Protect your aircraft during armed assault missions with crew served door or window guns, and armored floors.
MEDEVAC

MEDEVAC

Quickly replace troop seats with litters/stretchers to bring the wounded home. Sikorsky’s dedicated HH-60M MEDEVAC variant for the U.S. Army does this best.
Aerial Firefighting

Aerial Firefighting

Extinguish ground fires with a Bambi bucket from the cargo hook, or with a belly-mounted water tank.
Armed

Armed

Attach wings to carry forward firing guns, rockets and missiles for effective fire suppression. An integrated electro-optical sensor ensures greatest accuracy.
Search and Rescue

Search and Rescue

Bolt on a rescue hoist to perform humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions. An electro-optical sensor and weather radar will greatly assist the (combat) search and rescue mission.
Special Operations

Special Operations

Fast rope troops to the ground while hovering with a Fries bar. Add 200-gallon external or internal fuel tanks for extra range and endurance. Consider crew-served guns as well.
VIP Transport

Tomorrow’s BLACK HAWK   ___

Evolving for Tomorrow’s Missions

The UH-60M is the workhorse of the Army Division and will be integral for operations for decades to come. A smart, cost-effective modernization program will make this rugged aircraft more powerful, more connected, and more digital, to give Soldiers a decisive advantage in the future fight. Modernization will:

  • Deliver 50% more power and better fuel-efficiency with the Improved Turbine Engine, so the aircraft can fly further, loiter longer, and carry more payload on a single tank of gas.

  • Accelerate and simplify future technology upgrades through a MOSA-enabled digital backbone.

  • Enable the Black Hawk to carry and manage networked Launched Effects drones to collect and share vital intelligence in contested environments.

  • Simplify and streamline maintenance and sustainment to reduce costs and improve mission readiness.

  • Integrate autonomy to improve safety, let pilots focus on the mission, and enable pilot-less support missions like logistics and resupply.
